About the work
A figure looks directly out from a densely worked ground of glyphs, spirals and geometric blocks in indigo, terracotta and bone. The face is modelled in flat planes; the ornament around it is where the detail goes.
The patterning draws on Adinkra symbols the artist grew up with, reworked rather than reproduced — each one placed for its shape in the composition as much as its meaning.
Presentation
Float-mounted on a wide white conservation mount in a dark walnut frame, which gives the busy surface the quiet border it needs. Reads beautifully in a bedroom, study or entrance hall.
